Time to Reduce, Reuse and eCycle!
For the second year, Literati will be a co-sponsor of the Monongalia County Solid Waste Authoritiesí annual eCycling Electronics Recycling Day to be held this Saturday, April 23rd from 9am to 2pm at the Westover City Building Parking Lot on DuPont Road.
Lasts yearís event was very successful. Over 30,000 pounds of recyclable electronics were collected! This yearís goal is to double that. Recycling electronics is good for the environment in a number of ways. One, it reduces dumping in landfills. Two, most electronic goods contain metals that when they begin to breakdown, can leach potentially harmful chemicals into the ground and water supply. Three, electronics when recycled can be broken down into many different components that are reusable in plastics, glass and metals. Four, some electronics and be refurbished or repaired and donated to charitable organizations for further use.
We encourage everyone to look through their offices or homes to see if those old electronics that arenít being used any more can be brought to the electronics recycling day. There are minimal fees per item for residents to help cover the hauling and processing costs. A corporate rate of $.25 per pound is requested for organizations bringing large amounts of items. Itís recommended that you weigh, or estimate the weight prior to bringing your items to the event. Please visit the Mon County Solid Waste Authorities website linked below to get more information.
